I Fell Down the Worldbuilding Rabbit Hole

Being she of the busy brain, I couldn’t just do nothing while I waited for all these literary agents to start a bidding war over me.

Ha!

So last night, while looking for something to do, I opened up the first 7k words I’ve written of book two (yes, Cloudia is a series).

When writing book one, I found I like to throw little subtle Easter eggs into my plot. Maybe people will get them, maybe not. It doesn’t really matter to me; the story still makes sense without them

As I was reading what I wrote, I realized that a theme I had going had a few holes.

Ok, brief side note:

Am I being cryptic?

Yes.

Is it because somewhere in the back of my sometimes grandiose brain I think this will be wildly successful and I shouldn’t give away the plot?

Also yes.

Anyhoo.

So, in trying to fix this theme/Easter egg hole, I fell down a gaping, cavernous worldbuilding rabbit hole.

What if the one thing that was off-theme stayed off-theme and became on-theme at the end?

Stay with me.

But what is the reason the off-theme thing is off-theme?

And then I fell.

Two HOURS and many Wikipedia pages later, I had a reason why the off-theme thing was off-theme and a potential ending for the entire series.

Before last night, I wasn’t quite sure how I would wrap everything up, but one tiny error in my Easter eggs led me to the ENTIRE ending, plus a bunch of fun characters and details along the way.

That was fun. How does anyone ever do anything else?
