Ok, well, that was a little unprofessional.
But really, I had to blow off some steam.
This is hard, REALLY hard.
Past Melissa thought the query was hard?
Isn’t she cute?
I had dipped into the synopsis pond briefly, dipped out, had my whole messy literary affair moment and then came back to it all.
The good news is that I’m only four chapters away from being done with my second read-aloud, and Tiffiny likes the changes I’ve made, including untangling my very large POV problems.
I’ve read one of my comps, Kaya of the Ocean; I’m halfway through my second, Amari and the Night Brothers, and while I still have wicked imposter syndrome, I’m confident that if Cloudia ever gets published, she belongs on the same shelf in the bookstore.
Just maybe a lower shelf.
I looked at Tiffiny’s edits on my query letter and sent off my 5th? 6th? version for her to, hopefully, like this time.
And lastly, my first two chapters are polished, formatted and ready to go.
Now for the bad news…
Writing a synopsis really REALLY sucks.
I have a sample synopsis, a synopsis outline and a synopsis checklist. I should be ready to go, right?
WRONG
I’m struggling to find a balance between what is important to include and what I shouldn’t.
So I’m overwriting to the nth degree. I’m including EVERYTHING, and it sounds like a robot is writing it. Apparently, writing a synopsis has made me HAL 9000.
I don’t know what to do other than finish as HAL, hopefully then get some advice (look out, Tiffiny, because this is BAD) and come out the other side with some personality injected back into it.
Then I should be done.
Right?
